Toilet repairs in London
Water around the base, a cistern that keeps running or a flush that no longer works? Contact AK Plumbing with your postcode and what has happened. We take toilet repair enquiries across North London, including Enfield, Barnet and Whetstone.
If water is escaping or this is your only toilet, call to discuss urgency and availability.
Tell us about the toilet fault
Include when it happens, any earlier repair and whether access is concealed. We will contact you to discuss the next step.
Which problem are you seeing?
Water around the base or behind the toilet
Say whether water appears after flushing, overnight or continuously. Mention a wet connection, toilet movement, soft flooring or a stain in the room below. The puddle location alone does not identify the failed part.
Cistern keeps running or refilling
Explain whether water keeps entering the bowl, the cistern repeatedly fills, or water is escaping outside it. These are different symptoms. Include the toilet or flush mechanism model if visible without taking it apart.
Broken button, handle or weak flush
Tell us what the control does and whether the cistern fills normally. If a part has already been replaced, include which one and whether it changed the problem. You do not need to order parts before making an enquiry.
Water rises in the bowl or drains slowly
Report whether the problem affects only this toilet or other drains too. Do not repeatedly flush a bowl that is backing up. A blockage enquiry needs different job notes from a faulty flush button.
For more detail on a floor-level puddle, read toilet leaking at the base: causes and next steps. If the source is unclear or moisture persists after plumbing work, ask about leak investigation.
Water is reaching the floor: what to do now
Stop using the toilet if flushing releases water onto the floor. Avoid contact with escaped water and keep children and pets away. Call for advice if the leak continues, the floor feels unstable or the room below is affected. Do not keep flushing to reproduce the leak, tighten fixings harder or seal around the base to hide the puddle.
Tell us whether it is your only toilet. In a flat, notify the managing agent and any affected neighbour. If a landlord or agent needs to authorise work, include their details in the booking discussion.
Still leaking after an earlier repair?
Explain what was replaced, whether the symptom stopped and how long it took to return. Water that appears the next morning is important to report even if the toilet seemed dry immediately after the visit.
The next step should establish the source. Repeating the same part replacement without checking adjacent connections, movement and access may leave the original question unanswered. Bring the previous job notes or invoice into the discussion so the new enquiry has the full history.
Concealed fittings and damaged flooring
Say whether the pan is back-to-wall, the cistern is boxed in or the fittings sit behind bathroom furniture. Mention soft flooring, loose tiles or staining below before the appointment is arranged.
Ask what access is required and whether the scope includes removal and refitting, protecting finishes and making good. Fixing the plumbing and assessing damaged floor support may involve separate work; agree responsibility before proceeding.
Agree the visit and repair scope
- Before attendance: confirm the appointment window, initial charge, VAT and what the first visit covers. Ask how a delay will be communicated.
- After assessment: ask what failed, what work is proposed and whether parts or another visit are needed. Agree additional costs before work proceeds.
- Before the job is closed: discuss how the repair was checked, what remains outstanding and whom to contact if water or the same fault returns.
You do not need to diagnose a pan connector or buy a flush valve to request help. A clear description, postcode and accessible photographs are a better starting point.
Toilet repair booking questions
Can I get an urgent toilet repair?
Call to discuss current availability and say whether water is escaping, the bowl is backing up or this is your only toilet. An appointment is confirmed after the job and location are discussed; submitting the form does not reserve a slot.
What does a toilet repair cost?
Engineer attendance is £60 and plumbing work is £160 per hour, with no VAT added. Agree the repair scope and hourly quote before work starts. Parts, access, removal and refitting may affect the repair price. If the source is uncertain, an inspection may be needed before a repair quote can be agreed.
Does a leak mean I need a new toilet?
Not automatically. Ask which part or connection has failed and why replacement is being proposed. A cracked pan, damaged support and a replaceable fitting involve different work, so the cause and access need to be established.
Can I enquire about a concealed or back-to-wall toilet?
Yes. Say whether the cistern and waste connection are behind furniture or a wall and whether there is an access panel. An accessible overview photo can help the initial discussion. Do not remove tiles or panels just to identify the fault.
The toilet was repaired recently. What should I tell you?
Include what was changed, whether the leak stopped temporarily and when it returned. Keep the earlier job notes or invoice available. Ask whether the next visit is diagnosis, a return visit from the previous provider or a separately charged repair.
Can a tenant request help?
Report the fault to the landlord or managing agent and confirm who can authorise work. Include the access contact and any affected neighbour. If you are reporting an active leak, make the urgency clear when you call.
