Glow-worm F22: identify the model before adding water
Glow-worm F22 does not support one identical set of instructions for every model. Betacom 4 and the Energy manuals referenced here associate F.22 with insufficient water or pressure. Flexicom technical guidance also includes an inadequate temperature rise at ignition. Start with the full model name, not a universal topping-up video.
That distinction matters most when the pressure appears reasonable or the installation has no familiar filling loop. A Flexicom fault can require investigation beyond a low gauge reading. Adding water without establishing that it is needed may leave the fault unresolved and create another problem.
Check only information available through normal user controls and accessible paperwork. Keep the boiler casing closed. Do not alter pump settings, disconnect temperature sensors or operate unknown valves to test an explanation. Those suffixes and numbers are useful information, not cosmetic details. A manual for a boiler with a similar front panel may describe a different system arrangement or different homeowner controls.

If the label cannot be read safely, explain that when seeking assistance rather than removing a cover. The shared number therefore does not establish shared controls, the same filling arrangement or the same failed part. Even where two manuals both refer to pressure, one may provide a homeowner procedure while another places refilling with a competent person. Read the operating instructions, not just a condensed fault-code table.
A practical comparison should answer three questions: what condition the model reports, what observation the homeowner can make, and what action the user manual actually permits. The table below follows that approach. It is deliberately not a list of parts to order from a displayed code.

Why a Flexicom can report F22 without an obvious pressure problem
The Flexicom wording about temperature rise describes how the boiler's controls assess its response during startup. It is different from simply reading a resting pressure value. The manufacturer lists water quantity, temperature sensing and circulation-related possibilities within the professional investigation of that condition.
In plain terms, a request to produce heat and a recognised temperature response are separate parts of the process. A fault can concern the response being detected, not merely whether someone has opened a filling device recently. That is why a plausible gauge reading does not rule out the Flexicom F22 condition.
This does not prove that the sensor is faulty or that the pump needs changing. A code can identify a condition without identifying which component or system circumstance caused it. Ask the engineer what finding distinguishes the recommended explanation from the other possibilities before authorising replacement work.
Do not try to establish the temperature response by touching pipes, moving sensors or changing pump speed. Nor should you raise the heating setting progressively to force a bigger response. The point of understanding the distinction is to avoid an unsuitable household intervention, while giving the person investigating a clear model name and a description of when the fault occurs.

The Flexicom hx user manual describes installations using a fully pumped open-vented or sealed water system. You therefore cannot identify the filling method from the boiler's brand or the presence of F22 alone. A combi-boiler demonstration may be entirely inappropriate to the connected system in your home.
If you cannot find a gauge or filling loop resembling an online picture, do not assume that a hidden valve must be opened somewhere else. Ask the installer or a competent engineer to identify the actual arrangement. Do not climb into a loft or investigate a cistern as an improvised response to the code.
The Flexicom sx user instructions also illustrate why model-specific permission matters: they place sealed-system draining, refilling and pressurising with a competent person. That is materially different from copying the Betacom 4 homeowner procedure. This guide does not combine the most convenient steps from several manuals into a new universal instruction.
For a recently purchased home, the useful missing information may be a system handover rather than a replacement component. Ask how the heating water is supplied, which controls are intended for daily use and what the owner should do if the fault returns. Betacom 4: use the reading and the demonstrated user procedure
The referenced Betacom 4 operating instructions describe viewing heating-system pressure and a filling procedure using a device shown by a competent person. This is a specific user route for that product. It should not be used as permission to operate an unfamiliar filling arrangement on a different Glow-worm model.
First make sure the number you are viewing is pressure rather than a temperature or setting. Use the correct manual's normal display instructions, and compare the reading with the requirements for the installed system. This article does not supply a universal bar target because it covers several different arrangements.
If a top-up is appropriate and the correct device has been positively identified and demonstrated, follow the complete matching procedure, including its final closed position. If a control is stiff, damaged, leaking or uncertain, do not force it. Watching a gauge does not make an unidentified valve safe to operate.
If the reading is already appropriate, or F22 remains after the permitted action, adding more water is not an established solution. Stop changing the pressure and arrange assessment. The original poster did not provide a confirmed repair outcome. Suggestions about a particular failed component remained suggestions, not an established diagnosis of that home.
The account raises a useful distinction between restoring a reading and correcting its repeated loss. If the same condition returns shortly afterwards, the household has learned that the intervention did not provide a lasting explanation. Repeating it indefinitely does not make the installation normal merely because heat becomes available temporarily.
Record the timescale in ordinary terms: after a few minutes, later that evening or over several days. Compare readings under similar conditions where possible, using observations already available rather than running a faulty boiler to create a test. A rapid recurrence and a slow unexplained change are both relevant, but they are not identical histories.
Tell the engineer about visible water as a separate observation. An outside flow does not automatically prove that a heat exchanger is leaking, just as a dry floor does not rule out every possible loss. Identify outside water without confusing drain and safety discharge
The pipe described by a homeowner may not be the component an engineer imagines from the same word. Condensate drainage and safety discharge have different purposes. Colour, material and approximate position can help describe a pipe, but they do not establish its identity or authorise an intervention.
Use a photograph from a safe, accessible position that shows the pipe's surroundings and outlet. Describe whether water was visible during ordinary boiler operation or while the appliance was not heating. Do not detach a pipe, collect flow by altering the outlet or operate a relief valve to see what changes.
For the Flexicom sx manual specifically, discharge from the safety-discharge pipe calls for switching off the boiler's electrical supply and contacting service. Only use a safe, dry, accessible normal control; do not reach through leaking water. If you cannot identify the pipe or isolate safely, keep clear and request urgent advice about the visible condition.
Do not plug or cap an outlet to stop the symptom. A disappearing external drip would not establish that the underlying condition is corrected. Where pressure loss and external water occur together, the investigation should determine whether they are connected rather than choosing a repair solely because another forum post mentioned the same pipe colour.
Heating at one time of day but not another needs a separate description
In a January 2024 public discussion, a Flexicom 15hx owner reported heating that worked in the morning but not in the evening, with hot water still available and occasional F22. The owner suspected a leak and asked about overriding controls. No verified final cause or repair was shown.
That account should not become a diagnosis of either a leak or a timer. A remembered occasional code and a current lack of heating demand may need to be distinguished. Record whether F22 is actually displayed when the heating fails, or whether the screen shows something different at that time.
Use ordinary programmer information to explain what was requested. Do not bridge wiring, force a valve or bypass a thermostat to test whether the boiler can be made to run. A control override would change the installation and can obscure the original behaviour without proving why it occurred.
Available hot water also needs context. Say whether the property uses a separate cylinder or a combi arrangement and whether the boiler was observed operating during that hot-water period. A warm tap alone is not a complete test of the current heating path. The engineer needs the sequence of demand, display and actual service, not a conclusion inferred from one successful shower.

Recent work and different codes should stay in the history
If F22 began after radiator work, a drain-down or another intervention, include that timing. Ask the person who completed the work how the system was returned to service and whether normal operation was checked. The connection in time is a reason to review the handover, not automatic proof of poor workmanship.
Avoid further experimental changes before that conversation. Bleeding several radiators, topping up and adjusting controls can leave the system in a different condition from the one that first produced the fault. If you have already done something, describe it accurately; the sequence remains useful information.
If another fault code appeared before or after F22, retain both. Do not assume that a number shown on a different Glow-worm generation has the same meaning as a familiar Vaillant or Worcester code. Manufacturer and model identification remain necessary even when the characters look similar.
Reset only where the matching user manual permits it and there are no safety concerns or instructions to leave the appliance off. A returned fault is a reason for assessment, not repeated resetting. If operation resumes briefly, distinguish that temporary result from a repair that explains and addresses the condition that caused the shutdown.
What should a repair recommendation establish?
The useful conclusion is whether the appliance genuinely lacked water, whether repeated loss needs locating, or whether the model's sensing and operating response requires attention. An older Flexicom does not automatically require replacement because it shows F22. Age, condition, parts availability and the identified repair all matter to that decision. Equally, a new boiler would not by itself explain a separate problem in connected heating pipework. Compare repair and replacement proposals against the actual findings, not a general claim about the model's reputation.
After work, ask which normal services were checked and what to do if the fault returns. If the cause could not be reproduced, keep that limitation explicit. A useful handover provides a finding and a next step where needed, rather than describing every cleared display as a permanent solution.
